THE “STANDARD CHOKE”

A. In most cases, the “standard choke” is not very effective.

B. If this choke is attempted against you, tighten your throat and tuck your chin down, and you should have adequate time to affect your response.

C. If you are in position to apply a standard choke, a more effective choke would be to place both thumbs in the depression of the opponent’s throat,

D. and to then “roll” them deeply into this indented space. This choke cannot be maintained for long, however, and you should continue with a rapid follow-up.
